Actor Sean Connery is supporting a legal challenge from Lloyds TSB and HBOS bank merger.

The Competition Appeal Tribunal now consider whether the Government was right to circumvent the competition by allowing HBOS to be rescued.

A group of businessman investors and customers comprising the Group of Action on Merger (MAG) is the fight against the merger.

HBOS is confident that the trial, expected Tuesday, approve the transaction.

"It is time that people stopped using HBOS as a toy," said Shane O'Riordain spokesman for HBOS. "We are convinced that the appeal be unsuccessful and we would then ask the self-appointed group to withdraw."

MAG Lloyds TSB feels to purchase HBOS is bad for the Scottish economy. Their stand has won the support of Sean Connery, they sent a personal message agreeing that does not believe the merger is in the best interests of HBOS or the Scottish economy.

MAG that the decision of the Business Secretary Lord Mandelson to allow the agreement to proceed was based on legislation which was not in place when the merger was announced.

The legal process has been accelerated to ensure that There will be a stop to the HBOS shareholders vote on the agreement on December 12.

"We were very encouraged by the support we have received such a cons-part of the Scottish public employees and customers of HBOS, big businessmen and politicians " said GAM spokesman Malcolm Fraser.

HSBC plans to increase cash available for mortgages in the United Kingdom 20% to £ 15 billion in 2009. The Bank hopes that the move will increase its share of the UK mortgage market from 4% to 5%, HSBC said spokesman.

HSBC will pass on the full 1% cut to the borrowers.

The other mortgage lenders have announced their intention to spend the last week 1% rate cut by the Bank of England.

Lloyds TSB, Cheltenham and Gloucester, will bring their rates Mortgage 1%

Halifax will reduce the main rate of only 0.25%, but announced tracker customers will benefit from full 1% reduction.

Senior Rates Nationwide Building Society's come down from 0.69% to 4% from January 1.

Abbey are the examination rate, which currently stand at 5.44%. Tracker customers will see their rates reduced by 1% since early January.

Royal Bank of Scotland and NatWest will reduce their main rate mortgage from 0.75% to 4.44. RBS borrowers with a tracker or a loan account mortgage could benefit from the full 1% cut.

Barclays will reduce the loan rate arm Woolwich by 1.15%. Mortgage Clients Tracker will benefit the whole 1% cut.

Bradford & Bingley cut rates from 0.75% to 4.84%.

The FTSE finished 239 points on the week – from 4288 and closing on Friday at 4049.

The Dow dropped 192 points in the week – the opening Monday at 8827 and closing on Friday at 8635.

The pound also weakened against the U.S. dollar and the euro over the week – Passing $ 1.54 against the dollar at $ 1.47 and 1.21 Euros to 1.15 Euros.
